Testing. This thing on?

After considering it for quite some time, I finally decided to take the plunge and start a writing blog. I've done other blogging before, of both the personal and travel varieties, but this is the first time I've carved out a space purely to talk about my writing. It's also a way to connect with other writers and start to establish my "brand" and all that. Because with the rise of self-publication and a more hands on approach to getting your stuff out there, we're all brands, right?

So! Novel Aspirations is officially my space for talking about my fantasy series Tales of Jynsei, the first book of which is in the draft stage after many years of planning and world-building. Translation: I stalled for half a decade because I was too nervous about it all going horribly awry. Well over that now.

I'll talk about Jynsei in much more detail later, but the quick and dirty is that it will be a five-book fantasy series set in a fictional empire (the titular Jynsei), with some magic but no fantasy races. What it will have plenty of are LGBT characters, because the genre needs more of that. I could go into how important it is for more authors to help make non-heteronormative relationships seem less out of the ordinary in fiction... but I'm not going to. Not today at least.
